Custom Wall Lettering: TSC Solutions

This job for TSC Solutions in Rockledge, Florida was completed this past weekend. They are new customers, but have sought us for many of their signage needs to finish the look for their new office building. The customer requested to have their logo placed on their building which is a great look for any office building. We decided to go with custom cut out aluminum lettering from Gemini Incorporated.

To start we had to get the initial measurement of the space on the wall as shown below. With this we can layout the lettering and get the final sizes to send to the manufacturer to cut out of ¼ in aluminum.

Once the lettering was in, it was time to install them onto the building. We went out and rented an articulated boom lift to make the installation easier. This eliminated the need to constantly climb up and down ladders and reduced the over all time of the job. This was a first for me, but once Pat showed me how to work it, I got the hang of it really quick.

First we had to put up the supplied pattern to be able to drill the holes in the wall. The holes are for the studs that are attached to the back of the letters. These studs hold a majority of the weight of the letters and ensure that they do not fall.applying the pattern

The pattern attached with plenty of duct tape to ensure that it doesn’t get blown away in the wind while we drill our holes. Before we started drilling. We took a step back to gather our drills and made sure it was all level. You don’t want to drill the holes to find out that you have to do them all over again because everything is a few degrees off level.

Drilling our holes. Our battery-powered drills were not very helpful with this. Though they had a hammer drill setting, it was simply not enough power to go through the thick concrete on the wall. Two inches in, and we were still drilling into solid concrete. Very few walls that I have done have had concrete this thick. We had to fire up the generator and run our extension cords to the top of the lift. Once we did this, it made a world of difference. The powered drill cut through the concrete like butter.

After all the holes were drilled, we test fit the letters to assure that they fit correctly and lined up with the pattern.

We took step back to see how things line up. It is crucial to do this when working at a scale this large. Slight imperfections are will only be visible from far away.

Here is the final outcome of the whole process. It turned out well and the customer was very pleased with the final product.
